Dr. Alejandra Acuña

LCSW, Psychiatric Social Worker, Los Angeles Unified School District


Alejandra Acuña is an Associate Professor of social work at Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN). Dr. Acuña has worked in health and human services in various settings for over 30 years and has taught social work courses for local universities for over 20 years. 


Dr. Acuña research interest and career passion has been the resilience of youth and families from low-income urban communities. She has published in academic journals about her research on these topics.


She provides training and evaluation for LAUSD, the Tutčint Youth Reinvestment Program, and Pukúu Cultural Community Services. She is on the board of Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural and founded the Minority Male Mentoring (M3) program at CSUN.


Dr. Acuña created "Promotores de Bienestar Mental," a YouTube channel with bilingual psycho-education videos created by MSW students. Coming soon is season two (which she joins as co-host) of the podcast, "Café con Emoción," created to magnify the voices of the Latinx community and highlight holistic approaches in mental health.
